Making the world a better place:

A Report on our progress with the 17 Sustainable Development Goals

The Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), also known as Global Goals, are a set of 17 integrated and interrelated goals to end poverty, protect the planet and ensure that humanity enjoys peace and prosperity by 2030.

The 17 Sustainable Development Goals

Introduction

MPOWER, a new age company strives to build on its efforts to be future- ready as it acknowledges climate change as a material issue.
We are focusing on four major areas in our bid to be a responsible and globally admired energy company: offer climate- friendly and efficient products, focus on health & safety systems, employee security & upliftment and deliver business with ethics and commitment, to meet stakeholder expectations.

Priority SDGs

01

No poverty

It aims to end poverty in all its forms, everywhere. For the first time, as part of the SDGs, countries have committed to reducing child poverty. Children experience poverty differently from adults – their needs and expectations are different, and for children, the effects of poverty can be lifelong.

02

Zero hunger

is about creating a world free of hunger by 2030. The global issue of hunger and food insecurity has shown an alarming increase since 2015, a trend exacerbated by a combination of factors including the pandemic, conflict, climate change, and deepening inequalities

03

Good health and well-being

Post Corona, every people intensive institution has learnt its lesson. Additionally, our industry deals with noxious gasses and heat, which can harm people in short and long term.

04

Quality education

Ensure inclusive and equitable quality education and promote lifelong learning opportunities for all.

05

Gender equality

It aims to achieve gender equality and empower all women and girls. Gender equality is a human right. It is also a precondition for realizing all goals in the 2030 Sustainable Development Agenda.

06

Clean water and sanitation

It aims to ensure availability and sustainable management of water and sanitation for all. Water and sanitation are critical to the health of people and the planet. Goal 6 not only addresses the issues relating to drinking water, sanitation and hygiene (WASH), but also the quality and sustainability of water resources worldwide.

07

Affordable and clean energy

Ensure access to affordable, reliable, sustainable and modern energy for all. Renewable energy solutions are becoming cheaper, more reliable and more efficient every day. Our current reliance on fossil fuels is unsustainable and harmful to the planet, which is why we have to change the way we produce and consume energy.

08

Decent work and economic growth

We want our workers to be happy and develop themselves so as to reap economic benefits in the long run. We therefore focus on proper work environments, training, and preserved remuneration.

Priority SDGs

01

CLIMATE ACTION

It aims to end poverty in all its forms, everywhere. For the first time, as part of the SDGs, countries have committed to reducing child poverty. Children experience poverty differently from adults – their needs and expectations are different, and for children, the effects of poverty can be lifelong.

02

INSTITUTION SAFETY

With large number of skilled and unskilled workers with specialized jobs hired in our sector, it is important to ensure their safety and well-being.

03

GOOD HEALTH AND WELL-BEING

Post Corona, every people intensive institution has learnt its lesson. Additionally, our industry deals with noxious gasses and heat, which can harm people in short and long term.

04

DECENT WORK

We want our workers to be happy and develop themselves so as to reap economic benefits in the long run. We therefore focus on proper work environments, training, and preserved remuneration.

13

Climate action

Steel making requires a huge amount of energy and produces gasses and other by products that directly affect the environment. It is our priority to continually improve our processes to reduce the damage made to the environment.

14

Life below water

Conserve and sustainably use the oceans, seas and marine resources for sustainable development.

15

Life on land

Protect, restore and promote sustainable use of terrestrial ecosystems, sustainably manage forests, combat desertification, and halt and reverse land degradation and halt biodiversity loss.

16

Peace, justice and strong institutions

Promote peaceful and inclusive societies for sustainable development, provide access to justice for all and build effective, accountable and inclusive institutions at all levels.

17

Partnerships for the goals

It aims to strengthen the means of implementation and revitalize the global partnership for sustainable development. Partnerships are the glue for SDG implementation and will be essential to making the Agenda a reality.

Addressing Climate Change

MPower aims to amalgamate environmental protection across all its operational activities. Through optimal utilization of energy sources, adopting greener processes, developing greener products, adherence to best practices and compliance with emerging international standards, we are ensuring that our planet remains in good health.

The company will focus on augmenting its renewable energy capacity, with a particular emphasis on rainwater harvesting, and implementing strategies to reduce, reuse, and recycle resources and waste, while ensuring the environmentally safe disposal of waste streams. The company also promotes carbon emission mitigation initiatives by relying on renewable energy sources, installation of energy-saving LED lighting and planting trees in and around the factory locations.

We would further conduct regular EHS training for our employees to propagate environmental awareness and responsibility and thereby instil environmental conversation within our business culture. We reinforce the behavior by setting and regularly reviewing our environmental objectives and targets.

Similarly, water quality and freshwater availability is a growing challenge throughout the world. Thus MPower aims to adopt water efficiency measures across industrial, commercial and residential sectors that have to be ensured, besides reusing/recycling for efficient utilization of water. At MPower, we understand the value of water for continued operations and undertake various water conservation and mitigation initiatives to secure water requirements. The company ensures that no water resources have been significantly affected due to its operations.

17

Partnerships for the goals

It aims to strengthen the means of implementation and revitalize the global partnership for sustainable development.  Partnerships are the glue for SDG implementation and will be essential to making the Agenda a reality.

Strong Mind, Strong Body, Happy Workforce

The foundation for health at MPower is laid by continual training and sensitization to ensure that all such measures are implemented and that employees have the required awareness of health protection. The term 'health protection' has got new meanings in a Covid-19 world, and the new norms and altered operating procedures are expected to stand firm in the near future. We have responded similarly. Regular training is imparted to the workforce and security personnel through experts.

MPower will also commence simulator-based training programmes for factory workers, wherein, their reflexes and responses in challenging climatic conditions, fog, difficult terrain and chaos will be assessed. Such programmes can help the company bring big improvements in ensuring healthy employee performance. Furthermore, the company plans to provide healthy work conditions with basic amenities such as restrooms, restaurant, secured parking with CCTV camera, drinking water facility and Wi-Fi so that not only the physical health but also the mental health is taken care of employees.

Make safe the people we rely on

We firmly believe an accident and incident-free environment saves precious company's assets and contributes to the company's growth and development. It begins with the adoption of good engineering practices in design and construction, together with the elimination of unsafe conditions. The objective of the "Zero Accident" initiative is to avoid all accidents at work. In the long-term, the "Safe Materials" programme will eliminate all materials that are potentially harmful to employees or users. Our employees' workplaces are designed and regularly inspected in accordance with ergonomic considerations. We continually monitor compliance with international safety standards in areas such as the safety of machinery and plants. We achieve significant success in the field of occupational health and safety every year. MPower is targeting WRIFR (Work- Related Incident Frequency Rate = a number of occupational accidents incurring at least one- day absence from work and accidents requiring medical assistance /1,000,000 working hours) which means it reaches a gratifyingly low level. Our employees benefit from special insurance coverage at work and from the protection offered by the international security and medical service provider International SOS. The company has issued various Standard Operating Procedures, uses audio- visual health/safety messages across the premises, undertakes HSS-related training, conducts mock drills & audits and incorporates various technological advancements for providing the best safety systems and to develop a healthy culture of safety.

Make strong the people we depend on

Our focus is to foster a culture of inclusiveness, participation and innovation supporting employee growth and contribution. With the global steel business experiencing various transformations owing to growing concerns on climate change, health & safety, energy transition, inequalities and resource conservation, we are undertaking efforts to develop its technologies, processes and people to grow, adapt and excel in these times. The company has placed thrust on simplification of processes through employee engagement & development to enable and empower the employees. MPower is steering its efforts towards becoming a Learning Organization that values skilling, reskilling and up-skilling its employees. The company provides an opportunity for access to world-class technologies, training, stakeholder connect and a global outlook at all levels.

MPower is a fair employer and promotes human rights, workforce diversity and inclusivity. The company does not engage in direct or indirect discrimination in recruitment promotion, salary benefits, training and post-retirement benefits based on caste, religion, disability, gender, age, race, colour, marital status, etc, and has a well laid out "Equal Opportunity Policy". Strong policies and processes are maintained to keep the work environment free from any harassment based on the above considerations.

09

Industry, Innovation and infrastructure

Build resilient infrastructure, promote inclusive and sustainable industrialization and foster innovation.

10

Reduced inequalities

Inequality threatens long-term social and economic development, harms poverty reduction and destroys people’s sense of fulfillment and self-worth.

11

Sustainable cities and communities

The world’s population is constantly increasing. To accommodate everyone, we need to build modern, sustainable cities. For all of us to survive and prosper, we need new, intelligent urban planning that creates safe, affordable and resilient cities with green and culturally inspiring living conditions.

12

Reaponsible consumption and production

Our planet has provided us with an abundance of natural resources. But we have not utilized them responsibly and currently consume far beyond what our planet can provide. We must learn how to use and produce in sustainable ways that will reverse the harm that we have inflicted on the planet.
